How this works

We want to turn small contributions and useful ideas into public experiments. We are starting with the ideas. Funding is not open.

What this project is

Two Dollars for Science is an independent project started by Trey. “For science” describes the approach: ask a specific question, try something, and publish what happened. It does not mean every project is scientific research.

The project is not presented as a registered charity. A future contribution would not buy equity, a financial return, a prize entry or control over which idea gets selected. No tax-deductibility claim is made.

Ideas are free

Anyone 18 or older can suggest a problem to improve. Payment does not buy priority. Starting questions on the board are examples written by the project. They are not community submissions, votes or funded commitments.

How review works

Submissions enter a private review queue. We aim to review them weekly, but this is a new project and timing is not guaranteed. We check for a specific problem, a lawful and plausible direction, and the absence of private information, harassment, spam or promotional links. We can decline or remove a submission that does not fit. Approval on the board is not a funding commitment.

For the first funded round, we will assess the people helped, cost, delivery time, available skills, useful alternatives and whether the result can be shared. Trey makes the initial selection. We will publish the rationale and any connection between a selected project and Trey's existing businesses before opening contributions.

The money rules

Before contributions open, the round must name its projects, budget, recipients, allocation, expected payment fees, any reserves or operating costs, delivery target and treatment of unused funds. The proposed first-round split is half of net contributions to each of two projects. This is a proposal, not an active collection.

Payment would happen in Venmo, Cash App or your bank's Zelle flow, using only destinations listed on this website. This site does not collect payment credentials. A link click is not proof that money arrived.

The public ledger records amounts after they are verified against payment records. Contributions, provider fees, refunds, project spending and adjustments are separate entries. The balance is the recorded balance, not a live bank balance or independent audit. We will publish the latest reconciliation date. Personal donor details and private transaction references are excluded.

Any correction to a posted ledger entry gets a separate adjustment. Receipt links, where provided, must be checked and redacted before publication. Project costs and outcomes belong alongside the financial record.

Before asking for the first $2

We will publish the funding round, verify that the selected payment accounts support the activity, explain any fees and unused-fund terms, and identify the recipient clearly. Until then, the useful next step is suggesting a fix.

Your suggestion remains yours

By submitting, you permit us to display your idea and optional public name, evaluate it and discuss it as part of this project. You retain rights to your work. Do not submit confidential inventions or information that you are not entitled to share. Any separate project contract or license will need its own agreement.
